One of The Urbans, Ashmawi Yakin (above, archive photo) made his first competitive debut for Malaysian Premier League side, Negeri Sembilan yesterday in Malaysia Cup match against Felda United which ended with 3-1 loss at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka, Pahang.
The Seremban-born defender, together with captain Taylor Regan, Daniel Ting and Annas Rahmat formed the backline of the visiting side before being subbed off in the last quarter of the game due to minor injury.
According to Urban Bash Sports Operations Director, Faliq Firdaus, the competitive debut was long overdue for the former Harimau Muda B captain.
“It’s a mixed feeling. Negeri lost but Ashmawi got what he wanted. It’s his dream to play for his beloved state team and I’m glad he has been given the chance to contribute to the team after being sidelined in the first half of the season. I’d like to thank Gary Philips for that.”
Ashmawi, 22, signed a 3-year-contract with Malaysian Premier League outfit, Negeri Sembilan at the end of last year after ending his term with Harimau Muda B setup under the guidance of Razip Ismail.
Negeri lost the game 3-1 as former Negeri man, Forkey Doe struck twice for the home side with Christie Jayaseelan adding the tally for Felda United. Anas Rahmat scored the only goal for the visitors.
Negeri Sembilan are drawn in Group D alongside Felda United, Melaka United, and Terengganu vying for Malaysia Cup glory this year.
